Sacred Soul-keepers

Sacred Soul-keepers

the world teaches to be ashamed of scars,

of stretch marks,

of beautiful flaws upon one’s sacred soul-keeper

but a scar is simply a reminder

of how one fought to get where they are today

bruised knees

surgery linings

evidence of change

they are to be celebrated,

not hidden

I wrote this poem a few years ago. It seems that in every phase of life, the pen of my soul follows and is sharper than ever before. Writing and creativity have been woven into my essence for as long as I can remember. Poetry pulls at the strings of my heart, my hands involuntarily pick up random guitars I often find in shops or people’s houses. The spark, wholeness, and understanding that floods through my body is enriched when I am able to harness my favorite methods of expression. When I was a little girl, I was a bit of a perfectionist. When there were holes or scratches in my stuffed animals and favorite toys, I would worry and try to fix it even when it was simply unfix-able. My mother told me to think of my freckles, my bumps and bruises, my scabs or dry skin. She explained to Little Me that everything in life has its own unique make-up and markings. To ease my worrying, she kept explaining how humans cannot be prodded and picked apart. That nothing is ever perfect. This memory lingered with me ever since.

Sacred Soulkeepers is a reflection of how magnificent it is to accept, embrace, embody, and appreciate your own unique make-up and markings. How can you enjoy the happy ending of a storybook without reading through the chapters of angst and heartache? Messiness builds beauty. Humanity is a river with ragged skipping stones that bring laughter, a pool of rippling synchronicities that connect you to the ocean. From time to time, we all get wrapped in the web of insecurity about our past or physical appearances. Sacred Soul-keepers is a reminder of the light within, the importance of the journey, the significance of the milestones we have that leave imprints on our skin and our hearts. I share this piece of my spirit now to emphasize that wholly loving yourself cannot be measured with a blogpost, poem, or any routine. It is an infinite immeasurable gift to embrace, an ever-flowing well to discover the depths of, and an endless adventure to journey through in this lifetime. Everyone has their own scars, internal and external. Our binds look different; some are untied with no effort while others feel like metal chains. It is beautifully human to venture into the mission of befriending these binds and freeing ourselves with self-love and the awakening of our divinity.

Through my personal expression and through my business Soulmade, my desire is to share this human journey of insights and challenges with others. Allow the fire to expand and light someone else’s torch. I celebrate darkness and love shadows. It is only a warped perception, pressure from society, and our own fears that cause us to avoid these unlit corners of ourselves for the sake of a false shield. I challenge myself and others to explore those corners and shine light there. Only then will the heaviness of the dark iron out and the fullness of who you are will expand.

Through my practices, I feel the spark of aliveness when I help, guide, teach, and create. This is the purpose of Soulmade. This is the wilderness of beauty and the rawness of expression. It may be ever changing and feel unfamiliar, but that is nature, and we are nature. Cyclic, magic, energetic. My creations, adventures, and services are designed with the intent to help others come home to themselves. All the while I am a growing human who is practicing this, too. The universe calls in mysterious ways. How will you answer?
