Intuition: The World’s Forgotten Friend

Albert Einstein once said, “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

He is absolutely right. But what is intuition? The word came from Latin origins, specifically the word Tueri. It means to watch over something, or to guard it. It can also translate to contemplation. Our intuition is our innate sense of spiritual protection. It is a precious discernment. Like Einstein said, it is a gift. It is the compass of the inner world, the key to the heart’s map, and the worthy solution the mind so deeply desires. So why have we forgotten it?

Today, the world seems to revolve around consumerism, economics, or materialism. As you read this, the environment is dying. Whether it is water being used to fuel AI, or trees being cut down to make paper, or even ocean life suffering the reckless consequences of fishermen bycatch, nature has been forgotten. Not by all, but by many. Power and money have nothing to do with our purpose or our oneness with the life around us. The birds, the grass, even the meticulous insects and their roles in the ecosystem: they are all connected to us. We are connected to them. What I’m trying to say is, the gift has been forgotten because the spark of life and nature has been ignored for far too long. It is not something to feel guilty about, but it is something to take responsibility for. Change begins with you. It is a seed planted that sprouts within generations of people who are dedicated to the gift of intuition and the beauty of nature.

To discern between fear and intuition is a huge obstacle for those who are seeking a deeper intuitive connection with the self. Let me put it this way: would a sacred gift scream at you? Push you off of a bridge? Or would it nudge you? Gently point you in the right direction to take the next right step? The thing is, sometimes intuition will lead us to make mistakes. But those mistakes will always reveal a lesson to master in order to strengthen your intuition and spirit. Your intuition is always protecting you. Maybe accidents or mistakes are parts of its protection. Because it is your own higher knowing. Trust it.

One time, I felt very “weird” about visiting someone close to me in the hospital. It felt heavy, out of the way, and something about the scenario brought up a lot of resistance. But I chose to ignore that feeling for the sake of being a good friend. Honorable, sure, but my intuition knew better. On my way there, I rear-ended someone on the interstate. My airbags deployed and my car was being worked on for three months. Everyone involved was completely fine! The moral of the story is that I was not meant to visit the hospital that day. And deep inside, I knew that. Sometimes, our intuition comes back to communicate in a way in which we must listen.

Intuition is an ebb and flow, a dance between spirit and earth. Trust the flexibility. Lean into it. It is not only our gift, but our friend. A friend protects, a friend sets boundaries, a friend loves, and a friend is present. So is the light within you; that gift we call intuition today. It is time to remember it.
