Moksha

Moksha is November’s word. What it means? Freedom.

Specifically, liberation from the cycle of life and death; the end goal for those practicing hinduism. It implies nirvana and release. It is derived from the Sanskrit word, muc, which means to free.

I chose this word to focus on because as I have been building my current business, I have come across all of my old ideas. Before Soulmade came to be, I considered Moksha Monet, a title that honors freedom and art within the world of wellness. Often, our freedom of thought, opinion, speech, and belief feels jeopardized in regard to health and wellbeing, all for the sake of profit.

I write this not to give my personal spiel about the matter, but to remember, recognize, and reflect on what Moksha is all about. Where in our lives do we need freedom? Maybe it is in the realm of physical health. But remember, health is multidimensional and holistic. If we need freedom in relationships, hobbies, or careers, that is still rooted in the need for freedom of true health.

It is easy to forget that we are our own key to full liberation. The choices we make, the lifestyles we mold, the communities we build; that is all up to us. There is inherent freedom in that, yet it gets lost in the conformity and entrapment of the unnatural order of modern society. It is time to cultivate Moksha and gently find authenticity in our own selves.

I used to follow meditations that used Moksha as a mantra. I would sit with it, visualize it, and repeat it. The beauty of Moksha is that it is not an earthly thing to seek out, but a way of spiritual enlightenment and higher perspective that seeks us.

Moksha is a matter of open mindedness, empowerment, and liberation in all aspects of life. It is a beautiful word originated from an extraordinary language and religious practice. I am reminded of how much I love Moksha, and the way I used to say it all the time to remind myself that I am responsible for my own freedom and way of life.

The best part of it all: so are you.
